Just in Case You Need Proof. . .

You must be thinking, "Two posts in ONE day? Katy, it's like you have all the free time in the world!" I do for the next week as I am on bed rest. The baby is fine and I have an appointment on March 5th to reevaluate at that point. Until then, I guess I am blogging, eating Dilly Bars, and getting ahead on school work. Did I mention eating Dilly Bars? That's my favorite part.

OK, OK, onto the pictures. If you are offended by black and white pixilated boy parts, scroll no more. Otherwise, scroll on!

This is not exclusive to boys, but check out that fat little foot. Three weeks ago, all we could see was bone. "Thanks for the Dilly Bars, mom!"

Here's the profile. If you're wondering why he looks like Sloth from the Goonies, it's because that's a hand on his face. Hmmm, Sloth could be a good name. I'll add it to the list.

Taking Care of Business

Since everyone keeps telling us that we need to get projects done before the baby comes, I decided that we needed to repaint the kitchen. It is a really lovely yellowish color that makes me think of banana pudding (which I hate) or a wilted daisy. Dismal, I know. Our brother-in-law, Ryland (www.carterspokane.com), was nice enough to come over and help. JJ's brother Kurt is lending his expertise as well. I know what you're thinking, "Katy, why on Earth would you need three people to paint a kitchen?" Here's the answer: evidently, repainting an outdated kitchen is like putting frosting on a mud pie. So this little repainting job has turned into a bit of a remodel. So here are the before pictures and who knows when we'll get to the afters? I, for one, am having a blast cooking in our office. The point is, I am not helping aside from choosing colors so they can take as much time as they want:)

Acting Out. . .

This is how I found Tucker today. Why do I have so many plastic bags and isn't that really my fault, you ask? Not really. He's simply acting out because of the big news we told him today.

He found out that he won't be the only small boy in our house. He will still be the only small non-human boy of sorts, but it's true--We are having a BOY!

It makes sense because I don't like baby boy clothes and we have no boy names picked out. Congratulations universe, you win. It's just yet another good reminder that we aren't in control and life is what happens when you're making plans!

We had a feeling it was a boy, and it was so much fun finding out that our hunch was right. JJ is, of course, totally beaming. I'm pretty sure the baby's take-home outfit will have a well known dog-like emblem with perhaps a purple and gold "W" on it, but we will see for sure in four-and-a-half months. Sitting in the waiting room at the doctor's office JJ said,"We get to raise him to be a man of God." Now, who wouldn't be excited about that?

So, mom and I are going to Top Stitch this weekend to pick out Amy Butler fabric for the nursery and we need to pick out some names. Good thing he doesn't actually need a name until July. Or a nursery for that matter. I'm actually not sure which one is going to take longer for me to figure out:)

Just Kickin' It.

Well, no new pictures to post, but the big news this week is that my dad picked out a couple of boy names, just in case. I totally trust my dad's judgement which is why we are throwing into the ring the names Clem and Cletis. We were thinking about maybe doing a cool, modern spelling like Klem or Kletis, but we might just stick with a traditional spelling.

Just kidding.

The news is really that the baby is kicking. Pretty weird, but really fun all at the same time. I love sitting quietly, slowing my breathing, and waiting for the baby to move. I had my hand on my belly yesterday and I felt the baby kick inside as well as outside. It's an incredible feeling to know that the baby is just growing and doing what babies do in utero.

In other Vancil family news, we are overjoyed and feel so incredibly blessed that JJ's sister Emily will be marrying JJ's good friend (incidentally, Emily's boyfriend) Jason sometime this summer. We were fortunate enough to be able to go to Leavenworth to celebrate with them and what a celebration is was. Emily and Jason are the kind of people who separately have the ability to make you feel like a million bucks. However, together this energy, passion, and love pours from them in such an incredible way. We are more than excited to have Jason in our family because not only is he giving Emily the love she deserves, but he also cares for us in great ways. He is also weird enough to be able to handle each personality in our family while adding his unique flavor that we all love so well.
So the Vancil family expands by two more people this summer and we couldn't be more pleased--our cheeks hurt so much from smiling all the time:)

Say "Hello" to my Little Friend. . .

Here are our second and third ultrasound pictures. The first just looks like a little Sourpatch Kid, so we probably won't post it. I feel badly that while all of our friends will call their children "Little Bumblebee" and "Cupcake" the best I came up with is "Sourpatch." It's better than my brother's chosen name for me which was "Spit."

So here's like Ella Jane Vancil or Hansel Vancil. The first one is pretty clear. . .

We think the baby looks a lot like The Edge, so that's always a possible name. Just kidding, that's a picture from the U2 concert we went to which was incidentally about 15 weeks ago. Hmmm.

About 12 Weeks
Profile.
Notice the large nose. I'd love to say that isn't my fault.

About 15 Weeks
On its tummy.
The spine is that bright line on the left with its head resting, uh, someplace on the right. I don't exactly know everything we're looking at here.

It's saying, "I'm almost FOUR months old!" Either that, or it doesn't have thumbs.

OK, just kidding. We are looking at five fingers here.

Here is the profile. It's crazy how quickly it's growing!

So, there you have it. I heard the heartbeat yesterday, so everything seems like it's good! We will try again to figure out what we're having on March 5th so we can officially call "it" Ella Jane or Jerome Jamal:)
