And a New One Just Begun. . .

Happy 2010.

I can't believe it's already 2010. I look back on the last ten years and wonder where the time went. It's amazing to see how we have changed in just a short decade. Graduating from high school, going to college, dating, getting engaged, buying a house, getting married, settling into our new house, buying a couple of pets, going on a few trips, new jobs, new ministries, and now, a new family member.

We are excited to welcome our first child into this world around July 24th. To be honest, the reality of becoming a parent hasn't settled in. I was 'fortunate' enough to have H1N1 during the beginning of my pregnancy, so compared to how I felt then, my first trimester was a breeze in a sense. Settling into my second trimester, I am realizing how quickly children grow and we are beginning to enjoy each moment dreaming about who this child will be. Just 4 weeks ago, our baby looked like a Sour Patch Kid. Last week, it looked like a baby. We saw tiny feet, a big head, a fat little belly, and a very defined profile (I should begin apologizing to our child for its exaggerated features as soon as possible).

It is difficult to imagine what it will be like to raise a child in the world we live in. I think that is my biggest concern. Things here in Spokane are pretty easy and peaceful if you compare it to the world around us. I struggle with how to reconcile all the pain in the world with the beauty of beginning our family. Everyone reassures me that no matter what happens in the world, as long as you parent side-by-side and champion your children, things should turn out OK. I have dreams that this child will help bring peace and healing to those whom he or she meets, but I guess we have to get through bringing it into the world, teething, potty training, and many other milestones first.

So we begin this year with our hearts full, anticipating all the adventures 2010 will bring. We hope your year has begun with hope and excitement for what's in store for your own life.

This child is gonna be just fine. You two are gonna be great parents.

When I was pregnant with Kolina I had a dream that I was tap-dancing in a figure eight with a horse and several other animals. Kinda pales when you compare it with dreaming of your child saving the world. Who knows??????
